'Cilcain' collection
Having moved to a cottage nestled below Moel Famau and the Clwydian Range I’ve taken inspiration from the rugged landscape and beautiful stone used in the houses and the walls around the village of Cilcain.

The Cilcain Collection uses three different stoneware clays, harmonised by their natural forms, mark making, the glaze and its application. I’ve created an off white glaze that’s soft in colour and texture, I either dip or apply with a more natural flow. This glaze changes colour depending on which clay body is used, sometimes appearing nearly white and sometimes with a heather tone. Some pieces are decorated with large and small irregular shapes which are reminiscent of patterns formed within the dry stone walls in my local countryside.
A combination of hand building, pinching, carving and wheel thrown work (depending on my mood), however somehow it looks like each piece is related.
I love to group pieces and see how they compliment each other - rather like the different personalities in a village.
